Walt Disney and his Legacy

With the birth of, Walter Elias Disney, on December 5, 1901, amongst other characteristics, a bright and successful man was born. Something that is still prevalent to this day, would be the legacy that Walt Disney left in this world before he passed on December 15th, 1966 in California. The work Mr. Disney left behind was/is still truly phenomenal to this day. It goes to show how true art and hard work never dies, even when you are no longer around. Mr. Walt Disney has created multiple cartoons starting with Mickey Mouse, Steamboat Willie, and then Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and more. Eventually, on July 17th 1955, Disneyland ($17 million theme park) opened. The start of Disneyland led to the widespread of other parks all around the world, including Disney World in Orlando, Florida. On the biography I read about Disney, he had a few failures in the beginning of his career which eventually led to successes. Another prime example of how we sometimes have to fail to get to where we want to be in life.

Easter Day Slaughter

Today, April 16th 2017, a holy holiday for most, cops in Cleveland were/still may be searching for a killer who “they believe shot and killed an elderly man in a horrifying Easter afternoon attack- that was brazenly broadcast live on Facebook.”  This man took it upon himself to create a live video on Facebook later on, and told the public “And I’m about to keep killing until they catch me.” Of course, Facebook took both video’s down, and there is still a link that viewers can click on to watch this obscene video that really makes me question humanity and why people do such evil acts. (Here is the link: Innocent old man shot on Easter)

This old man that happened to be shot, was just minding his own business when this deranged, poor excuse of a man, thought it would be a good idea to go and kill someone for no apparent reason what so ever (or just because of some girl that he mentioned on the video). Watching this video, and hearing about what happened, not only horrifies me, but truly sickens me. I’m terrified of this world we live in, because of people like this. I really hope that the police officers and whoever else can find this “man” and lock him up forever or even put an end to his life with capital punishment. Justice needs to be served, and hopefully soon it will be.

Trump launches military strike against Syria

On Thursday, April 6th, 2017, the U.S dropped missiles on a Syrian government airbase. According to CNN, it was in “response to a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier in the week.” The reason as to why these missiles were dropped on the airbase was because they were responsible for the chemical attacks that were going on, resulting in multiple deaths. A lot of people on social media are saying that this will be the next World War III but, who knows since it “represents a substantial escalation of the US military campaign in the region, and could be interpreted by the Syrian government as an act of war.” (CNN) Since this attack was unexpected, we may face some issues from Syria and I’m sure that our government is well aware of that. The only thing that concerned me when I heard about this attack was if we would most definitely have a backup plan, just in case Syria were to retaliate but I’m sure the United States does.

Death and Extinction of the Bees

Not too long ago, scientists have reported the mass extinction of honeybees. As a lot you may know, the loss of bees can really hurt the race of humanity starting with our food chain, “since no other single animal species plays a more significant role in producing the fruits and vegetables that we humans commonly take for granted yet require near daily to stay alive” taken from the article on Global Research. This is such a huge crisis that really needs to be taken into consideration, as something needs to be done soon to prevent the complete end of honeybees in our society. “Since 2006 beekeepers have been noticing their honeybee populations have been dying off at increasingly rapid rates. Subsequently researchers have been scrambling to come up with an accurate explanation and an effective strategy to save the bees and in turn, save us homo sapiens from extinction” It’s really sad that this is what is happening, but hopefully researchers and scientists will be able to find a way to keep the honeybees, as their company is very important in our society.

Congress Votes To Kill Protections For Wolves, Bears On Alaska Refuges

As of right now, the “Republican-sponsored legislation would undo the Alaska National Wildlife Refuges Rule, ultimately opening the door for the state to resume aggressive predator control tactics, including the shooting bears and wolves from airplanes and killing cubs and pups in their dens.” The only thing stopping this from happening is the wait on President Trump’s signature. Is any of this ethical? Some may argue that it is, due to the fact that people survive on their huntings for food, or that it reflects on their culture. Others, don’t believe it is ethical because these innocent creatures are being killed just for fun.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to what we as Americans think is okay and what we may think is wrong. In my opinion, I’m not “for” hunting, as I think it is painful to see these beautiful animals die. Then again, we kill cows, pigs, and chickens, etc for food and if that is what these Alaskans are doing just so they can eat, I guess there is no room to judge since, at the end of the day, an animal is still being killed.

Six Flags Tragedies

Six Flags Great America is a well known amusement park with 13 locations in America and properties in Canada and Mexico. In this tiny article I found about the Worst Six Flags accidents, it really surprised me. Out of the 12 accidents listed, one incident that occurred, the Superman: Tower of Power Ride in Kentucky- a girl lost both of her feet/legs due to a snapped cable. When I was younger, I heard about this accident with the girl losing her legs/feet and I always thought it was something told just to scare people before they got on the ride. Another crazy/sad accident that happened in New Orleans was a grandmother was helping her 4 year old son into a rollercoaster and the ride started while she was doing it and she was struck in the head. All of the accidents listed were very horrific and should definitely be read.

Growing up in Chicago, I’ve attended Six Flags ever since I was little. Though all of these accidents have happened, Six Flags is definitely a great place to go filled with fun and excitement. With that being said, these terrible things do or could happen and it is something that we all need to look out for and be aware of when attending an amusement park or anywhere that can be prone to accidents of any sort.

Racism lives on

On February 6th, a couple from Georgia (Jose Torres and Kayla Norton) were convicted for their racial slurs and armed threats against African-Americans at a child’s party, this incident happened back in 2015. The couple happened to be driving around in a convoy of pickup trucks with confederate flags hanging out of the back. The two belonged to a group called “Respect the flag.” As they were yelling racial comments, Torres pulled out a shotgun from the truck and pointed it at the party-goers. It scarred each individual that was attending the party, just as it would be for anyone to get attacked like that. After two years, justice was finally served.

It’s crazy to think that to this day, people are STILL being judged simply because of the color of their skin. Never is it acceptable to be racist towards someone with an opposite skin tone than you, but to threaten the lives of a human being for being born the way they were, is something that can never be taken back. It turns out that the couple started breaking down once the sentence was given to them, and in no way should anyone feel any sort of remorse for them because they knew what they were doing at the time and if they felt “so bad” for their wrongdoings, then they should not have committed those actions in the first place. Most of the time when someone does something, by mistake, they can be forgiven but not in this circumstance. This world should stop the hatred for one another just because of the color of someone else’s skin, or any other elements. It’s a different time, which means there is no room for negativity and repetition of the past. Certain people (especially racists ones) should come to terms with that idea.

Concerns Regarding Social Media and Health Issues in Adolescents and Young Adults

Social Media causes a lot of issues for young adolescents, though it has its positive outcomes according to, acog.org. The website separates the positives from the negatives that come from Social Media. The positive side of social media comes from teens being able to socialize with one another and become more creative and expand their horizons. Along with the positive outcomes, young adults and more are able to use the internet as a source for information, which can also expand their learning capabilities.

There are a few more positives to social media that everyone can benefit from that are mentioned on acog.org, but the site has also expanded their reasons more on the negatives of it. When the only thing that teens spend their time on is the internet, problems are certain to arise. Cyberbullying, Internet Addiction, Sleep Deprivation, and more can come from too much internet use. Young adults need to be aware of these problems, as they can really do a lot of damage in the long run. Also, when it comes to internet use, teens still struggle from time to time when it comes to giving out personal information to strangers over the internet which can be very life threatening along with other complications.

Youtube beauty guru culture redefines beauty standards

Whenever we think of beauty, we generally think of someone or something that is the definition of flawless. I’m not sure if any of you have ever watched or have been interested in Beauty Guru’s on youtube but, I have and I’ve seen how they have twisted the definition of beauty and have made it their own. According to Gowri Sunder, “The women who do stand out owe their fame in part to luck and good timing, but also because they were able to differentiate themselves through what they call “lifestyle

According to Gowri Sunder, “The women who do stand out owe their fame in part to luck and good timing, but also because they were able to differentiate themselves through what they call “lifestyle vlogging.” What that means is that as much as the videos are about the quality of product reviews and tutorials, they build the fame of the beauty gurus around a cult of personality. Branding themselves as a friend or big sister who gives you beauty tips, relationship advice, and encouragement creates trust and loyalty within their fans.” By what I was saying earlier, they are not simply following the guidelines of someone who thinks they’re better than another. They do more than just show you the brands of different makeup, they actually give advice which is something that a lot of people should do on all social media platforms.

By what I was saying earlier, they are not simply following the guidelines of someone who thinks they’re better than another. They do more than just show you the brands of different makeup and clothing, they actually give advice which is something that a lot of people should do on all social media platforms. If more people start to follow this and give guidance to one another, the world we live in could be a lot better than it is now and perhaps, some people would not feel as alone as they do now.
